Developed by Adolphe Sax, horns were initially played by the French military band and at the Paris opera. Make your own saxhorn and proudly march around!

Cécile Hortensia Musical Performance

10:30–11:15 a.m.
North El Río
See Phoenix-based French singer-songwriter Cécile Hortensia as she performs her unique poetic songs alongside her live band. She will also feature French classics that have been adapted in English in an exploration of French influences on American musical culture.

Face Painting

11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
South El Río
Add a touch of color and whimsy to your look! Have your face painted with a custom design by the artists of Hello Face Paint.

Musical Story Time: Everybody Bonjours!

10:00–10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m.–noon, 1:30–2:00 p.m., and 2:30–3:00 p.m.
South El Río
Stop by and listen to a fun story about a little girl’s adventures in Paris accompanied by MIM’s Story Time Band. This talented group of MIM volunteer team members will present the family-friendly story set to live music several times throughout the day. Get ready to practice your bestbonjour!

Café Allegro
Visit the café for a taste of French food and wine culture. A delicious menu of French wines and French-inspired cuisine, carefully selected just for this weekend, will be available for purchase.

ZAZU Musical Performance

12:30–1:15 p.m.
North El Río
Gypsy jazz, manouche jazz, Django jazz, gypsy swing―call it what you will, it has the same unforgettable ingredients: infectious swing, dark and moody highlights, and improvisation with reckless abandon. Be sure to catch the Arizona band ZAZU, back by popular demand, for a performance worthy of a 1930s Parisian nightclub.

L’invitation au voyage: Musical Exoticism in 19th-Century France

1:30–2:15 p.m.

Join Drew Quiring, ASU Doctor of Musical Arts student, for a discussion of global impacts on French music. Discover how different cultures from Asia to the Americas influenced and transformed the musical world of France through evocation and incorporation of foreign elements from the dawn of Romanticism to the twilight of the Belle Époque.

Paysages Musicaux: Piano and Flute Performance

3:15–4:00 p.m.
North El Río
Don’t miss an engaging duo as they revive works for piano and flute by two often underrated French musical composers, Mélanie Bonis and Gabriel Pierné. Phoenix-based chamber musicians Drew Quiring and Jenna Daum will perform a selection of works by these French musical greats worthy of remembrance!
