The Urban Imagination in 19th Century Paris
This illustrated presentation will discuss the history and development of Paris in the nineteenth century by focusing on the key monuments (Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame, grands magasins, etc.) and phenomena (revolution, commerce, Haussmannization) that shaped the city and made it famous worldwide.
Mark Cruse is Associate Professor of French in the School of International Letters and Cultures at Arizona State University. His research interests include medieval French civilization and the history of Paris.
