Conference: "Vel d'Hiv. Rafle"

Conference: "Vel d'Hiv. Rafle"

On Thursday, April 12, Jeri Benoit will hold a conference about the "Vel d'Hiv. Rafle" at the Scottsdale Community College.

The "Vel d'hiv. Rafle", or "Vel' d'Hiv Roundup" was a Nazi directed raid and mass arrest of Jews in Paris during the WWII on 16 and 17 July 1942. However, the Vel d’Hiv round-up was organized by the French authorities and carried out by the French policemen.  It became engraved in the French national memory as a symbol of the responsibility  of the Vichy regime and the French nation for the Holocaust of the Jews of France.  That is why it was hard for me to do this presentation because of the reality of it.

This week-long event seeks to address how we, as a global society, confront violent actions and current and ongoing threats of genocide throughout the world, while also looking to the past for guidance and to honor those affected by genocide.   Attached is more information about it:
