On Thursday, July 12, Newcomers will join with Phoenix's Alliance Française to commemorate Bastille Day, the French National Celebration.  We have a festive evening planned, beginning with a talk by Anne Connor titled “Bastille: Fortress, Prison, Revolution.”

Anne spent her early years in Brussels and came to the Valley in 1990.  She received her Masters in Art History at ASU where she taught courses in Northern and Italian Renaissance and Baroque Art.  She has also taught at Scottsdale and Glendale Community Colleges.  Now retired, she teaches at Scottsdale Artists School and gives regular lectures to special interest groups.

A scrumptious dinner follows, planned by Vincent Guerithault at his namesake restaurant on Camelback Rd.  Considered by many to be Phoenix's culinary prize, Vincent's training in classically prepared haute cuisine began in his youth in France.  Once established here, he began to add southwestern ingredients to produce a hybred cuisine based on the most exacting French techniques.

Vincent was the first chef ever to receive a Citation of Excellence from the International Food & Wine Society.  He has enjoyed countless commendations, including the James Beard award as “America's Best Chef: Southwest,” and in 2018 was elevated to the rank of Officier in the National Order of Agricultural Merit on behalf of France.  He and his restaurant have been lauded by Zagat, Mobil Travel Guide, Gourmet magazine, Conde Nast Traveler and Travel & Leisure.

Dinner begins with a small mixed green salad, followed by a choice of Chicken Crepe, Sauteed Salmon with Basil Beurre Blanc, or Basil Pasta with Ratatouille Vegetables.  Dessert is the Chef's Bistro Choice of the Day.  Coffee, tea, tax and gratuity are all included.  Cash bar.

In partnership with the Alliance Française of Greater Phoenix and Newcomers & Neighbors of Scottsdale.
